The Third Sunday of Easter
Title: "Change"
Scripture: Acts 3:12-19
Key Verse: "Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, 20so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah appointed for you, that is, Jesus, " (v. 19-20).
Theme: Change is never easy. Even a casual observance of major change leaders in our contemporary society will lead one to the conclusion that crucifixion (so to speak) is not just a fate for change leaders but a highly likely fate! This is so because change involves loss and people don’t like loss, especially when it affects them. Change involves leaving something behind…repenting of something about oneself, that while comfortable—maybe even enjoyable—is not productive for future growth. As a corporate body, the church must face the prospect of change, opening ourselves to repentance that the possibility for new righteousness may emerge. We must expect, however, that when we talk of change we are dealing with powerful forces that may seek to resist and eventually undo us.
The Big Question: Why is it hard to change?
