The Fifth Sunday in Lent
Title: "Living From the Inside Out"
Scripture: Jer 31:31-34
Key Verse: "I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God and they shall be my people" (v. 33b).
Theme: We naturally live from the inside out. Our strength, our intellect, our health, and our emotional formation all translate into how we live our life. This presents an obvious problem for those of us who would seek to follow Jesus and grow in relationship with him: we cannot express in any sustained manner that which is not innately a part of us. If God's love, life, and law is not a part of us, we will surely at some point betray that fact by our lives; the relationship will crumble because we are not equipped to sustain it. The beauty of the new covenant is that God undertakes to do what is ultimately needed for our salvation, that he will have his law written upon our hearts so that our lives can be living expressions of love, grace, and mercy, in constant and ongoing pursuit of holiness.
The Big Question: What does it take to be holy?
