    The Second Sunday in Lent

    Title:
    "Defining Salvation"
    Scripture: Mk 8:31-38
Key Verse: "whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospels will save it" (v. 35).
Theme: Salvation is not...  This statement could end in any number of ways.  But, our passage suggests that first and foremost that salvation is not without consequences.  It cannot mean floating up to some cloud, transporting to some far off planet, being enlightened, or securing some kind of ticket to a far-off place called heaven.  It consists of a substantive transformation of will, purpose, and, yes, destiny.  It involves getting on the side of God.
The Big Question: What is the goal of salvation?
